Acting Muscles

Flexed my acting muscles last night while helping my friend David with a short film he's making.  Because he's a nice guy (and smart) I didn't have any actual lines, just had to look ballaaa (EASY).  It will be fun to see when it's all done, when we were in high school he made some pretty great movies so, time should provide some new skills and creativity in the way this one is edited.

Here's a link to the only movie i've ever attempted to make. Another Banner Day.  It was for a basic digital imaging class where we learned iMovie and dabbled in Final Cut...Fall 2008 I believe. The movie is....let's say amateur at best, but cute!   Somehow in the rendering, the audio was pushed back a few seconds.
I made the dolls for my screen printing class, they're still one my favorite things I made in college.  If you want some of you and your friends or family, i've been thinking about trying my hand at a small doll making business :)

Working from home today because I'm doing some layout drawings.  I mean, I pay for a studio space, lets use it!

Where's Anna?! Did you get the package I sent you? I hope so, because it had a pretty great zine in it by King Cat,  which I just found out today is a big deal since the 90's...so, i hope it's not lost :)

I am very pleased to say that i love how my paintings are coming along!  At one point during the day I stepped back and felt so overwhelmed (with happy things!) that i almost started crying.  It feels good to be back on track and working on art that I like.

I'm starting to become obsessed with New American Painting magazine, which recently displayed the work of fellow Kent Stater Chad Hansen. Their are some pretty great artists out there...and a lot more figurative work than school has led me to believe.

Here's someone that I liked. Kelly Reemtsen.  I love the bold brush strokes and the use of planes to find the form. Personally, I think the "suburban housewife gone crazy" theme is a little overused but, her use of paint gives it a playful almost doll-like quality that I love.

Of course, I'm not an art critic sooo yah! This piece is called "character assassination"

Thinking about subscribing to Art News. It's a little expensive though. We'll seeeee

Score!

Inspired today.
Still, didn't start on it yet. Sounds like I shouldn't be shouting "score!"? Well, ya'll suck and don't understand inspirations.
For those of you not holding your nose at my preemptive Hoorah, the inspiration in question happened at the laundry mat. This is the first time I have done laundry for the month of September. I did not want to. But I had to. Usually, I enjoy the heat and the damp of it, but as of late, notsomuch.
Anywho. Inspired.
Will act on it Thursday.
Sewing machine fixed, dress still left undone.
One more page of the children's book, check!
Clean unders, booya!
Taco Tuesday, yes we did.
XOXO
Aaaaaaaa
Oh, and it isn't 1:25 AM. For me, anyway. But we can pretend.
Shh while Roni is sleeping, I am putting shaving cream on the hand of her blog, then I am going to tickle her blog face, and blog Roni, at 1:25 AM is going to swat at the tickle exploding the shaving cream into a big blog face mess! Cyber pranks are so funny!

HI! I'm Anna!

...And I just broke my sewing machine! It is a Necchi Royal and I hate it and I think it knows that I hate it, because it breaks. Often.
Anywho.
I have primed two surfaces this week and started neither. I began making a dress, and my machine broke. I finished one page of a children's book yesterday, when I promised myself I'd complete 4.
Raise your hands if you've had days like these.
LOVE!
A
..oh and I don't have spell-check. So I will misspell things. Dispell things.

Masterful Jointery!

Decided that I don't like being a lone blogger. Having my name all high and mighty at the top like that was giving my a complex.  SooOOOooooooo asked my super amazing old studio mate who now lives in the far off land of San Francisco, ANNA!, to be my co-bloghort!

We've come up with a fun name and i'm getting started on the banner asap.  Hopefully, it will become a silly place for us to show off fun art-realated things to each other while everyone else laughs hysterically :)

Going to Melt tonight then hanging out with the boy, he's in town for an interview!

Oil loves water

Finally got paint on canvas yesterday.  Tried water soluble oil paints for the first time.  They're pretty fantastic...all the color quality of regular oils with less toxicity! NO TURPS WOOO!!  The main difference is the thinning and thickening...both water and linseed oil make it a little tacky. Thinking about buying some walnut oil.  I've read that it is good for flow.  It's like re-learning to ride a bike, you are wobbly at first but, after a few laps you're right back on track!

the search

Sketched out my first painting of the new body of work I want to get finished by December.  It was challenging but turned out just as I had expected.  Now that I can see the idea manifesting it makes me excited to push through it!  Remind me to keep notes on any revelations I may have...I have a feeling that once I sit down to write an artist statement for grad school I will have completely forgotten why I started in the first place, hahaha!

Let's hope not, turns out most if not all of my ideas are rooted in the same place for the last 8 years (at least!).  Apparently, everything I think about is rooted in the search for companionship...friendship or otherwise.

Work today, day off again tomorrow. Time to build some canvases!

Picked my first two subjects for paintings. Deciding whether or not to tell them or to just finish the pieces and then tell them. Haha. Methinks paint now, surprise!! later
